FFB: Sleepers ‘09 QB Edition

Every year there are a few players that in the league that seem blow up out of nowhere and this year is no different. The only difference between this year and every other year is that it seems as though almost every team has a sleeper candidate. Here is a breakdown of sleeper candidates by position for the 2009 season. Some of these guys might already be on your sleeper list while some might be new to you. Good luck.

Quarterbacks: The QB position is really tough to find sleepers in unless there is an injury involved. Nobody drafts a QB that isn’t a starter and if you are a starting QB in the NFL everybody knows about you. So, here is a list of QBs that aren’t really sleepers but more like a group of QBs that will outperform expectations.

hasselbeckMatt Hasselbeck- With the edition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh to the receiving core, Hasselbeck should easily be able to outplay the ‘08 version of himself. He’s healthy and has a much upgraded offense this year with Housh, a healthy Nate Burleson, an emerging John Carlson and Julius Jones paired up with Edgerin James in the backfield.

palmerCarson Palmer- If Palmer can stay healthy, and that is a huge if, he should be able to post decent numbers this year. Chris Henry is emerging as his new go to guy while Chad Ochocinco won’t have to compete for looks with T.J. Houshmandzadeh. And they sure won’t be relying on Cedric Benson to carry the offense. The Bengals will be down a lot towards the end of games and will have to pass quite a bit. Laveranues Coles will also see his share looks and with a receiving corps like that, health is the only thing that can stop Palmer from being a better fantasy option this year.

favreBrett Favre- I know, Favre is the farthest thing from being a sleeper but he will have a great year in Minnesota this year. All of the pieces are there. A great running game in Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor which will only make Favre more dangerous when opposing Defenses have to bring an eighth man into the box to try to stuff the run, a very good Defense to keep them in the game so Favre can work his magic and a good receiving core in Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin. Look for Favre to finish in the top 10 in Fantasy QBs this season.
