Q: Do you think that Michael Vick will have fantasy value this year?
Layla- Atlanta, GA
A: Well, he will have very limited value unless Donovan McNabb gets hurt. If that happens Vick will definitely be worth rostering. But with a healthy McNabb and Brian Westbrook, there won’t be much of a need for Vick outside of the occasional Wildcat lineup.
Q: Who will have the best year out of these three QBs, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Tom Brady?
Rudy- Boston, MASS
A: That depends on whether you mean fantasy or reality. I’m going to assume you mean fantasy since this is a fantasy sports website. Brees will have a better season than both Brady and Manning. Brady will be close but Brees will throw the ball more and have a healthy Marques Colston to target. Brady will probably make it to the Superbowl again while having the second best fantasy season for QBs and Manning will do just fine this year staying inside the top 5 QBs. Here is the list of Defense/Special Teams and their projected value for the 2009 Fantasy Football Season. I’ve taken the liberty of listing each player’s bye week along with their auction value. I hope this helps you out in your quest for a Fantasy Football Championship. Remember, these ranks are set for standard Fantasy Football Leagues. Make sure your league counts Special Teams with Defense or you might end up with a Bears Defense that doesn’t get credit for a Devin Hester kickoff or punt return TD. Keep checking back because these rankings will change as the preseason goes on and the regular season nears.

Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings have finally announced that Brett Favre will be coming out of retirement to play for the Vikings this year. His deal is reported to be worth between $10-12 million for one year (obviously so he can put on this charade again next year). This instantly makes an already good Vikings team into a Superbowl contender. Now, I’m not saying that the Vikings will win the Superbowl now that they have Brett Favre. But, I am saying that their team just got a whole lot better.
What does this mean for fantasy managers? Well, it gives us another option at QB for one. Is it a great option? No, not really but you could have worse QBs on your team. Everyone knows what to expect from Favre. Truthfully, the Vikings with Favre aren’t much different than the New York Jets with Favre. The Vikings have roughly the same offense as the Jets and the Jets actually had a better defense than the Vikings last year according to Yahoo Sports. It just should be a little easier for Favre now that he is healthy and back in the NFC.

Michael Vick has signed a two year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. The first year is worth $1.6 million and the the second year is an option year at $5.2 million. This was a bit of a surprise seeing that the Eagles were one of the teams that had already said that they weren’t interested in signing Vick.
So, what does this mean for Vick and the Eagles? More importantly, what does this mean for fantasy managers? Well, it won’t mean anything until Vick is allowed to actually play a game. He may miss up to the first six weeks of the season but no more than six weeks. Commissioner Roger Goodell has said that he will make a decision by week six as to when Vick can play. As of now he will be allowed to play in preseason games and fully practice when the regular season starts. Read the rest of this entry »
