Dodgers Looking at Halladay

alg_halladayRoy Halladay will be on the open market until July 28, 2009 then he will be taken off the market until next year. The Toronto Blue Jays have set an internal deadline to trade Halladay by.

The Los Angeles Dodgers might be interested in trading for Roy Halladay but it seems that the Jays asking price will probably be too steep. It is rumored that the Jays would need the Dodgers to include Clayton Kershaw in any deal that the Dodgers offer and the Dodgers don’t want to give up a player with as much talent and potential as Kershaw has.

By the way, if for some reason Kershaw is available in your league, pick him up immediately. He has been on fire as of late and it doesn’t look like it will come to an end anytime soon. I only say this because I just recently picked him up off waivers in two of my leagues, one of them being my keeper league.

The Los Angeles Angels seem to have backed off a bit due to the Jays wanting Brandon Wood included in a trade. The Angels need Halladay due to the relative ineffectiveness of their current starting rotation. All of their SP are having a down year and Halladay would give their rotation a serious shot in the arm.

Now, even the Tampa Bay Rays are getting involved. Well, maybe just kicking the tires. But can you imagine Halladay in that starting rotation? He would be able to mentor that young staff and would definitely make them a contender to at least repeat as AL Champs if not World Champs. They do have the young talent to give up but do they really want to sacrifice the future for a guy they most certainly wouldn’t be able to resign?

The New York Yankees are always in the mix just because they would trade for a player to keep the Boston Red Sox from getting him. And Boston could also be in the mix for the same reason that the Yanks are in it.

The Philadelphia Phillies still remain the most valid option to get a trade done here. They have the talent, payroll flexibility and they are in first place so Halladay shouldn’t have a problem waiving his no trade clause. If Halladay is traded to anyone, it will most likely be the Phillies.
