Tim Hudson Update

Giants Braves BaseballApparently, the Atlanta Braves are thinking about making Tim Hudson a reliever when he returns from the disabled list. Don’t worry Braves fans, it would only be for the rest of this season. The Braves have been shot down in their attempts to trade for cheap bullpen arms recently and have said that they are willing to look into the possibility of putting Hudson in as a reliever. Hudson doesn’t exactly have a ton of experience as a reliever, two appearances in fact. But, it would be a good way to bring him back slowly and cautiously. Read the rest of this entry »

Tommy Everidge MLB Debut

tommyI know a 1 for 6 night with a double and 1 RBI doesn’t sound like much of a debut for a rookie and that is exactly what Tommy Everidge did in his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics. But, if you take into consideration the circumstances, it was a pretty impressive double. Two outs in the 9th inning facing Jonathan Papelbon All-Star closer for the Boston Red Sox, down by three runs. First pitch fastball laced off the Green Monster, about a foot shy from being a homerun.

I knew Everidge in college so this is kind of a proud moment for me. I watched Everidge tear up Division 2 pitching at Sonoma State and I was ecstatic when the Oakland Athletics drafted him in the 10th round of the 2004 draft. The funny thing is that Tommy grew up a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan. Either way he’s up in the Majors and we should be able to get a pretty good look at him. Daric Barton was put on the 15 Day DL and Everidge was called up to take his place. Now, on July 9th I wrote keep an eye on him on because he could be making his MLB debut pretty soon. A Holliday In St. Louis

matt-holliday-as-tradeWell, you probably know by now that Matt Holliday has been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. In return, the Oakland Athletics will receive Super Prospect Brett Wallace, Minor League Outfielder Shane Peterson and Minor Leaguer Clayton Mortensen. Wallace and Mortensen will report to Triple A Sacramento while Peterson will head to Double A Midland.

So, what does this mean fantasywise? Holliday will immediately get a boost in fantasy potential. Hitting in a much hitter friendly park in St. Louis should help him return to his old self. Well, maybe not quite his Colorado days but he should be a ton better offensively now. Don’t be surprised if his numbers go up across the board. The Cards have a much better lineup that is stacked from top to bottom now. With Ryan Ludwick turning things around, Holliday should fit in nicely between him and Albert Pujols in the lineup. Expect that he will see better pitches and have more RBI opportunities. This should actually make the entire lineup better. Read the rest of this entry »

Dodgers Looking at Halladay

alg_halladayRoy Halladay will be on the open market until July 28, 2009 then he will be taken off the market until next year. The Toronto Blue Jays have set an internal deadline to trade Halladay by.

The Los Angeles Dodgers might be interested in trading for Roy Halladay but it seems that the Jays asking price will probably be too steep. It is rumored that the Jays would need the Dodgers to include Clayton Kershaw in any deal that the Dodgers offer and the Dodgers don’t want to give up a player with as much talent and potential as Kershaw has. MLB Second Half Bounce Back Players

martin-774148I’m sure that if you take a look at your current fantasy baseball roster, you’ll see a guy or two on it that hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. That is if you haven’t dropped them already for someone having a great week only to see your new acquisition fizzle out while your original player is scooped up and placed on a more patient manager’s bench. Here is a list of players that are bound to bounce back in the second half of the season.

Russell Martin, C Dodgers- There is no way that this guy doesn’t turn things around in the second half. He has had a dismal first half to the tune of .258 Avg., 2 HR, 37 Runs, 27 RBI, 8 SB and a .688 OPS. Heading into the All-Star break, Martin showed some signs of coming back to life which was just after a few impatient owners gave up on him in a few of my leagues. I believe that he will bounce back closer to his averages and should be able to give you a BA around .275 with a chance of double digit HR and SB.

Grady Sizemore, CF Indians- Most of Sizemore’s woes were caused by an elbow injury earlier on in the season. He has picked up the slack as of late in 10 July games batting .308 with 3 HR in 39 AB. Sizemore is one of those players that play evenly throughout the entire season so he should be right around his career averages for the second half. Read the rest of this entry »

NBA Summer League Beast

Anthony Randolph Dunks On Paul MillsapI know I have talked a lot about Anthony Randolph but the guy is an absolute BEAST!!! He just put up 42 points in his last summer league game (tying the record) and it is looking more and more like nobody will be able to stop him. I know… I know… It’s just summer league, but you can’t ignore these kind of stats. But he doesn’t just score. In four games he’s averaging 3 blocks and 2.25 steals per game to with 8.5 rebounds per game. He can also pass the ball.

I have compared him to Lamar Odom and now I truly believe that he can become an even better player than Odom could ever dream to be. If he can develop that “killer” mentality on the court, he could become one of the best players in the NBA. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him going in the end of the 1st/beginning of the 2nd round in fantasy drafts a few years from now. Read the rest of this entry »

MLB Trade Bait: Update 7/29

royHere is a look at some players around MLB that are possible trade targets and the teams that are interested in them.

Roy Halladay, Toronto Blue Jays- Interested teams: Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels. Everyone in a playoff race should be interested in Halladay. He still has one year left on his contract so the Jays will demand a king’s ransom for him. Part of that ransom might be taking on the contract of Vernon Wells also. The Angels might think about it with Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter likely to miss at least a month each. Rumor Has It

halladayThe St. Louis Cardinals might be looking to move struggling Ryan Ludwick while he still has some trade value. The two suspected teams involved in possible trades are the Oakland Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays. Now, normally you would think that the Cardinals would be asking for a nice young group of players for Ludwick but that isn’t the case. This isn’t one of those situations where the Cardinals are trying to unload a good player to look toward the future. Ludwick is having a poor season so far and it looks as though the Cardinals might be thinking that instead of 2008 being a breakout year for Ludwick, it might just have been a fluke year. Rumor Has It

672306The Pirates are ready to deal again. This time in the form of their only All-Star, Freddy Sanchez. That would mean that if he is traded before Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates won’t have a representative for the Mid-Summer Classic. MLB has informed Charlie Manuel that he does not have to select a replacement from the Pirates if this happens.

Now, the San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies are rumored to be interested along with “several other teams” according to the Pirates. The interesting thing here is that the Rockies are rumored to be offering Eric Young Jr. who has a mere 47 SB already this year in the minors. Read the rest of this entry »

Kevin Durant, Superstar

act_kevin_durantKevin Durant is going to be one of the best players in the NBA someday. Some will even say that he already is one of the best. It’s scary to think that he is only going to be in his 3rd season in the NBA next year and he has already proven that he can play with the best of them. He plays for a young team and he plays a lot. He is the leader of the team and so far seems to keep his nose clean. He can shoot the rock and play defense. He can even rebound the ball. Read the rest of this entry »
