The real question is when will Marcus Camby show up? I have had Camby on most of my fantasy squads over the past few years. I’ve had him for full seasons and I’ve also had him for injury plagued seasons. This season is not starting off on the right foot (no pun intended) with Camby likely to miss the season opener with a heel injury. He is targeting Friday for his season debut but who knows if that is realistic or not. The last thing the Los Angeles Clippers want to do is rush him out there and have him injure himself more than he already is.
Camby is an absolute force on defense and all around rebounding, possibly the best defender in the game next to Josh Smith when it comes to fantasy value. He’ll even get you assists and steals and coming from the center position, that is huge. He can almost single handedly lock up rebounds and blocks in H2H leagues. But there is always that concern for injury. One wrong move and he could be out for a month or even longer. That is a pretty risky pick for the second round but the upside is so huge that it is almost impossible to pass him up if you have a pick around 15 in the draft.
Now that Camby is in L.A., he has to deal with Kris Kaman taking away rebounds since Camby will be playing the power forward position. Having owned Camby the last few years matched with the Denver Nuggets always having games on TV, I have seen Camby in action a lot and let me tell you this. He is not shy about stealing rebounds from teammates. I don’t know how that will go over with Kaman but if Elton Brand could do it, I don’t see why Camby wouldn’t be able to. Only time will tell if I drafted the super fantasy defender/rebounder I had last year or the scoreless version of Yao Ming.
